To reach out to groups of people that are often overlooked by ‘conventional churches’ with the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. To throw a rope out to the lost and the lonely and pull them in to Him. (We catch ‘em, He cleans ‘em). To show people of western heritage how Jesus was a straight-shooter, a man of His word as well as the Son of God and how He walked His talk in love. To provide teachings that are clean cut and simplistic, non-judgmental, full of country gospel without fancy words and padding. Truth’s most beautiful robe is simplicity. Also to encourage believers to get off their hay bales and do something. To live a life of love, joy, peace and faith in the Lord and share this life with others, in a good way. Our main goal is to teach believers how to love Jesus, love themselves and then to love others.
An estimated 1 million people in Texas are either actively a part of the Western-heritage culture or bear a strong affinity for it. In most cases, established, traditional churches do not effectively reach these people.
The Web site www.cowboyministers.com lists cowboy church groups in 29 states. In Texas alone, seven thousand Christians have been baptized in cowboy churches since the western heritage movement began in 2000, according to Baptist General Convention of Texas records.
The average size of a cowboy church congregation is about 200 people.
Eighty percent of cowboy church baptisms are adults.
The affiliated churches of the Texas Fellowship of Cowboy Churches has grown to 85 congregations strong, with more being planted every year. Plans for 200 in 2010.
